Admissions Policy and Entrance Requirements

The American School of Ulaanbaatar (ASU) is a private international school that offers a comprehensive elementary and secondary program. Upon inquiring about admission to American School of Ulaanbaatar, families are given the admission package to provide them a quick overview of the programs, mission statement and application requirements.  Once the application and required documents are submitted according to the admission checklist, the applicant will be scheduled for a test.

Testing information

Applicants must score a minimum on the placement test in order to be admitted.

• PreK- Gr. 2     Grade Level Subject tests (Basic Skills, reading readiness, math readiness, motor skills). Length of the test: 30-60 minutes

• Gr.3 – Gr. 12   ESL test for Non –native speakers and

Age Requirements

To be admitted to the Pre-Kindergarten program, the child must be 4 years of age prior to September 1 of that school year. To be admitted to the First Grade program, the child must be 6 years of age prior to September 1 of that school year.

Class Size

Class size will be limited to the following:

• Primary School (Pre-Kindergarten)……………………..  10 per class

• Primary School (Kindergarten)…………………………… 18 per class

• Primary School (1^st Grade to 5^th Grade) ……………..   24 per class

• Middle School (6^th Grade to 8^th Grade)………………….24 per class

• High School (9^th Grade to 12^th Grade) …………………. 22 per class

Class placement

Children who enter the American School of Ulaanbaatar from schools with different academic years i.e. January to November will generally be placed in the grade they are currently attending, if entrance is at the start of the ASU school year.  If entrance is midway through the ASU school year, children will generally be placed in the grade they have just completed.  The Principal and appropriate teachers will make the final decisions on grade placement.

The application requirements for Pre-Kindergarten through 12^th Grade are as follows:

Read and Sign agreement of:

• Enrollment Agreement
• Parent/Student Handbook
• Tuition Fee Structure payment procedure and refund policy
• Submit Application Form in English or in Mongolian
• Pay Registration fee of 145.000T
• Official transcripts from the current school year and previous two years

(For Mongolians, it is required to submit an applicant’s personal profile from Local Schools)

• Copy of student’s birth certificate and copy of passport
• Copy of parent’s Passport or Identification Card
• Three (3) photos (3 x 4)
• Submit Health Information form in English or in Mongolian and a copy of vaccination form

Wait List

Children may be waitlisted if there is no space in the grade level. Last decision is going to be made by school administration.

Registration

The registration process for the School Year of 2011/2012 will take place during the following two periods of time:

• From May 23 to June 30^th: Monday – Friday 10:00a.m – 2:00p.m
• August 8^th to August 22^th: Monday – Friday 10:00a.m – 2:00p.m

Please note that August 22^nd is the deadline for the registration.
