PTA

The PTA (Parent Teacher Association)

PTA Meetings
Last Wednesday each month at 5:00 p.m. in Room 308

All parents and guardians of ASU are members.

Welcome to the ASU Parent Teacher Association! Every parent  is a member of the PTA automatically by having a child in attendance. We rely on the drive and enthusiasm of the parents who are involved with us. There are no fees or dues and we encourage everyone to get involved, either by volunteering or simply attending our activities.

The PTA Executive Committee

The Executive Committee coordinates the activities of the PTA and its members are elected annually. The Committee consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Room Parents Coordinator, Teacher Representative and several ordinary members. A representative of the school administration attends both general and executive meetings.

Objectives of the PTA: communication and support of parents, students and teachers.

We strive to foster communication among parents, students and teachers of the school in order to:

  •         Organize activities and events for the parents and teachers
  •         Contribute to the effectiveness of the school by promoting the involvement of parents and other community members
  •     Support, encourage and improve the quality of education and well being of the students.

General Meetings

Once every month, there is a General Meeting where all parents are invited. Part of the meeting will focus on the PTA activities and proposals. In addition, the developments in the school will be presented by the Head of School. In several of the General Meetings, speakers on topics of interest to parents will be invited.

Activities

Parents are offered several opportunities to meet with each other during meetings, activities and volunteer work. We aim to create an inviting atmosphere and opportunity to get to know each other.

Room parents facilitate the communication between parents and the teachers of one class.   This is a new PTA program at ASU.  If you would like to volunteer, come to our next PTA meeting or send an email to Kristina Nefstead, headofschool@asu.edu.mn.

Join us!

We invite all parents and guardians to come to our meetings and volunteer. You do not have to speak fluent English, just come and join in!   Meetings will be conducted in English and Mongolian.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact us at headofschool@asu.edu.mn.

    • ASU is planning to train the PAs and teachers in first aid and CPR
  • Lunch and cafeteria at ASU
    • Parents volunteered to evaluate the cafeteria food –their opinion of the cafeteria service was positive

  • Most classes have a parent in their class

4. Carry over of items raised at previous meeting:

  • Coupon use in cafeteria
  • Parent Contacts – Suggested that ASU parents have a phone directory so they can communicate with one another
  •
    • Suggestion:  For sanitary reasons – Secondary students have coupons for purchasing lunch items instead of using money.  –the administration of ASU discussed this and feels that to implement this in the last trimester would not be accepted by secondary students or the cafeteria personnel.  They like the freedom of purchasing lunch items with money.  It will be discussed further and possibly implemented for the 2010-2011 school year.
